Teaching Theology Online: Engaging International Students

Greetings! I hope you are all doing well. My family and I are doing fine in Brazil. As you know that I teach several courses for theology school in Orlando for years, but this year I taught Doctrine of Holy Spirit course with 15 international students. This is my first time to teach with this high number of international students on Zoom. In the past, there were very few students that live outside of US. It was a blessing to teach them last month. They were really eager to learn and asked a lot of questions. Some are leaders and pastors for their churches in their native countries. They understood clearly on this topic of the course despite there were different sign languages and different written languages from Benin, Togo, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Burundi, and Azerbaijan. They’re all in different time zones. I taught in the mornings in Brazil time and while they are on Zoom on afternoons on their home countries’ times.

They did very well on quizzes. They already completed this course plus 6 other courses. Now they are taking a break for summer and then they go back for second-year courses. I’m really exciting for them!

Taught them during the class.

Celebrating with international students for complete 7 courses for their first year of theology school.
